Raeesa's proportion post

Ratio: The relation between two similar magnitudes with respect to the number of times the first contains the second.
Ex: 6 to 9 , 6:9 and 6/9

Rate: A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units.

Ex. 15 to 20 or 15:20

Proportion: Comparative relation between things or magnitudes as to size , quantity , number , ratio.

1) 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph.

÷2
h 5 1
---- ----- = -----
m 360 72
÷2

2) As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

x4
aj 25ml 100ml
---- --------- = ----------
oj 50ml 200ml
x4

3) What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?

3/4=12/16 diagonally (multiply top left and bottom right) vertically, and horizontally.

Here is a video to help you guys out..

question 5:

1. do I think its fair? No

2. I don' think its fair because the guy that stole $3B he only got 3 years and the other guy stole $100,told the police about it, and he got 15 years.

3. If i was the judge i would have gave the guy that stole $100 3 years, and the other guy that stole $3B 15 years.

here are 2 links for you guys to practice about proportions and ratios.
