Math Questions/Pythagorean Relationship Taylor

4. a) 8.4
b) 10.1
c) 7.4

9. What are all possible whole numbers that have a square root between 4 and 5?
17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24
10. Kai uses an entire can of paint on a square backdrop for the school play. The label
on the can states that one can cover 27 squared metre of wall surface. Estimate the backdrop's side length, to one decimal place.

1. The Pythagorean relationship between the lengths of the sides of a right triangle. The sum of the areas of the squares attached to the legs of a right triangle equals the area of the square attached to the hypotenuse.

2.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2\!\,
12+5=c
(12x12)+(5x5)=c
144+25=c^2
c^2=169cm^2
/c^2=/169cm^2
c^2=13cm

3. It is not a right triangle because a^2+b^2 does not equal c^2.
a^2 + b^2 = c^2\!\,
6^2+8^2=11^2
(6x6)+(8x8)=(11x11)
36+64=121
100X=X121

Taylor&Alexia Pay It Forward

1)Pay it forward is an idea that helps people and is passed on from person to person to help the less fortunate.

2) For my Pay It Forward Alexia and I went to Winnipeg Harvest and The Salvation Army. We choose to go to these places because I feel bad when i think about people not having enough food to eat, and I think everyone should be able to wear things they like. We did our act of kindness on Saturday, November 12.

3. Our act of kindness went really good! We donated 6 pounds of cans, we took a picture there but it was mistakenly deleted. We also went to The Salvation Army and donated old clothes or clothes we didn't wear anymore, we donated two bags there. The lady seemed really happy and thank-ful, we explained the Pay It Forward to her so maybe she will pass it on!

4. The idea of Pay It Forward is really smart because if everyone in the world did something nice to 4 people the world would be different and it might solve world peace! Its also important because the less fortunate get a chance to eat etc. Now that we did a good thing for 2 people maybe they will pass it on !

Taylors Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

-Bar graphs:
Advantage-Are best for comparing data across categories.
Disadvantage-Graph categories can be reordered to emphasize certain effects.

-Double bar graphs:
Advantage-Are best for comparing two sets of data across
Disadvantage-Graph categories can be reordered
to emphasize certain effects.

-Circle graphs:
Advantage- Are best for comparing to the whole using percents. The sum of the percents in a circle graph is 100%.
Disadvantage- Its hard to compare 2 sets of data.

-Line graphs:
Advantage- Are best for showing data over time
Disadvantage- It isn't as visually appearing as the other ones.

-Pictographs:

Advantage- Are best for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols.
Disadvantage- Icons must be the same sizes or el
se it will be distorted.

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.
Distorting the sizes
Colouring it in
Make it 3D

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?
Pictograph and Line-graph
2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.
Yes I would continue selling them because every week it the number of Pizza Subs sold goes up.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?
I would show Mrs.Mota the line graph because you can really see how much it went up each month.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.
You can add different colours, use different images and make lines thicker.

Ratio- Is a ratio that compares two things. (Ex. 3:4,5:6,8:9)
Rate- is a ratio that compares two quantities of different units.(Ex. miles per hour)
Proportion- is an equation written form stating that two ratios are equivalent (Ex. 6/8=8/16)

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

3. What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32
