Sheila's Scribe Post
1) Kaitlyn and Jordan are converting 0.003 to a percent. Who's correct? Show how you know.

3) Several years ago Clarie bought the first issue of a popular comic book for $10.

Kaitlyn: 0.003 = 3%
Jordan: 0.003 = 0.3%
Jordan is CORRECT!
Kaitlyn's thinking: I think that she thought that since 0.003/1000, that you needed to multiply the number 1000 to get the right answer. But she was wrong. And she did 0.003x 1000= 3%. That's how she got the answer.
Jordan's way is right! Because he multiplied 0.003 with 100 and not 1000.
This is what Kaitlyn did:
And this is what Jordan did:
And if you need more help on converting a decimal into a fraction here's the link to the video.
2) Change each decimal to a percent and a fraction.
At a recent auction, it sold for $200. What percent is the new value of the comic book of the price several years ago?
And if your in the mood for some more percents, decimals, and fractions than here's a link!

Sheila's Pay It Forward.
" Pay it forward" is doing a random act of kindness for aleast someone who will in turn pass it on to other people.
From the movie: "You see, I do something real good for three people. And then when they ask how
they can pay it back, I say they have to Pay It Forward...to three more people. Each. So, nine people get helped. Then those people have to do twenty-seven." He turned on the calculator, punched in a few numbers. "Then it sort of spreads out, see, to eighty-one, then two hundred forty-three, then seven hundred twenty-nine, then two thousand, one hundred eighty-seven. See how big it gets?"

For my pay it forward I worked with Anita Chan, and Melina Cuneapen. We babysat my 3 cousins. Matthew, Jayden, and Fiona. This was honestly the best experiance ever! We had babysat my 3 cousins because I had to help my mom with this, because she was sick over the weekend and I had to tell Anita and Melina that plans were doomed. So they asked me " Sheila, we can help you babysit" When i heard those words over the phone, my heart beated with blood flowing joy!
We made arts and crafts, even took a bath for them, put them to sleep, feed them, and also played with them. It was so fun, Anita and Melina asked to babysit some other time. Which is awesome for my mom cause she really needs a break! My mom said that we made her day alot better without having to worry about a thing. This pay it forward was compeleted over the weekend. November 12-14 2011
These are some pictures of my cousins that we babysat:
Here is a picture of 4 year old, Fiona :
And finally 2 year old Jayden:
Well we had tons of fun over the weekend! We babysat 3 very fun and wonderful kids. I felt very happy that we helped my mom with this, even though i have helped her alot though these busy but fun years. I was overjoyed to see a ton of smiles coming from these amazing kids! Watching them grow up is just amazing! Even though sometimes these kids can be annoying or even worst CRYING! But thats okay. I didn't even mind that i had 3 wake up calls from Melina and 25 un-read emails from Anita on saturday morning. All of the re- planning, calls, and emails were totally worth it! Seeing my mom and the kids smile was just amazing! My mom makes Fiona's, Matthew's, and Jayden's parents life more easier knowing that they have a helping hand whenever it is needed. I have told my mom to " pay it forward" and she did! She have helped so many people already! So why stop? It's best to see every single person smile on this world!
The idea of Pay it Forward is so important because when one person helps 3 people, and one of those 3 people helps another 3 people, the numbers really add up and make a giant difference. The thought of helping someone without asking for anything in return is also really nice.
My act of kindness has made a difference to my mom and some very wonderful kids! Simply by Melina, Anita, and I babysitting some awesome kids. It was such a fun weekend! I hope that we can do this another time or even change it around by helping other people in the community.

Well thats MY pay it forward. Thanks for taking time in your day to read this!

Sheila's Graphing Post
1) Use your notes to list different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.
1a) Bar graphs: This are best for showing comparing data across categories.
Disavantage: This graph can only compare one set of data.
1b) Double Bar graphs: These are the best for comparing two sets of data across categories.
Disadvantages: You need 2 sets of data to use a double bar graph.
1c) Line graphs: Are best for showing changes in data over time.
Disadvantages: The line graph can only show one set of data.
1d) Circle graphs: Are the best for comparing categories to the whole using a percent.
Disadvantages : It's hard to compare 2 sets of data.
1e) Pictograph: This is the best for comparing data tat can be easily counted and represented using symbols.
Disadvantages: You have to calculate to know the data.
2) How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.

3a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?
My answer: A line graph will show to data accurately.
4) Below you see 2 examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convice Mrs.Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you use?
Answer: If i was going to convice Mrs.Mota that we should keep on selling healthy choices, I would have to choose a line graph because it shows that students are buying healthy choices each month.

3b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.
Answer: Well if I was selling Pizaa Subs, I would keep on selling cause it is selling more and more each week.

4a) Change each graph so your information looks even MORE IMPRESSIVE. You may not change the data just the graphs.

If you need more help here is a link to help you more on bar graphs.
And since there is something wrong with me uploading the video on to this post here is a link for it.

Sheila's Proportion Post
Definitions:
Ratio-A ratio is a comparison of quantities hat have the same units. Ratio can be written in many different ways.
2) As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.
Task 3)
What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32
Answers:
1) First, you can go diagonally. You can multiply the top left to the bottom right and the top right to the bottom left.
2) Secondly, you can do it vertically. You divide the numerator to the denominator for each ratios.
3) Lastly, you can divide the top left to the top right. Then, you divide the bottom left to the bottom right.
Task 4) Here is a link to see a video about a class doing proportions. ENJOY !
Ratio-A ratio is a comparison of quantities hat have the same units. Ratio can be written in many different ways.
Two- term ratio- Compares two quantities measured in the same units.
Three-term ratio- Compares three quantities measured in the same units.
Part-to- part ratio- Compares different parts of a group to each other.
Rate- It is a comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
Proportion- An equation which states that two ratios or fractions are equal.
1) 5 hours to travel 360 miles in about 72mph
Answer: 72m

Task 5)
1)Does this seem fair ?
No, it doesn't seem fair at all in my opinion.
2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
No, it's not fair at all. I have made this choice because the first dude stole $ 3 BILLION DOLLARS and we was sent to jail for 40 months. Then the homeless man only stole $ 100 dollars because he was VERY hungry and well homeless, he got sent to prison for 15 years!
3) What would you have done if you were the judge ?
I would have sent the man that stole $3 billion dollars to 15 years in PRISON, and the homeless man off with a warning and let him stay at the detox center and let some people prepare if food like his own personal chief.
