Nikka's textbook questions 5, 10, 14

B. No, there is no more then 1 answer because, there is no multiple of 12 between the perfect squares of 49 and 64.

Here's some games you can play (:

Pythagorean Relationship
1.
A pythagorean relationship means the sum of the areas of the two shortest sides of a right angle triangle (a and b), and it must always equal to the area of the hypotenus (c).

2.
^= squared.
a^+b^=c^
12^+5^=c^
(12x12)+(5x5)=c^
144+25=c^
169=c^
root 169=root c^
13cm=c^

The hypotenuse is 13cm.

3.
=/ = does not equal.
a^+b^=11^
(8x8)+(6x6)=(11x11)
64+36=121
100=/121

No it is not a right triangle because, the legs does not equal the hypotenuse.

Find 10% of 100.
100/10=10. (/ =divide)
Add 10 to 100. 100+10=110

B) Second Year:
Find 20% of 110
110/10=11
Multiply by 2
11x2=22
20% of 110 is 22
Add 22 to 110
110+22=132

Nikka's Pay It Forward Post

Part 1

"Pay It Forward" is a movie about a boy name Trevor. He attempt to change the world given a Social Studies project by his new Social Studies teacher. Paying it forward means that you help 3 other people out , instead of giving back you " Pay It Forward" to 3 other people. Then you continue and continue and the chain will get bigger and bigger !

Part 2

What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness?
My act of kindness was that me and my group ( Norien, Nicole, Beverly ) went to Children Hospital and gave the children's there some treat's and toy's. We were suppose to volunteer to play with children but you had to be at lease 14 years of age and give some medical records be we had to volunteer.

Why did you choose this activity?
Why we chose this act of kindness is that it's really sad seeing a children that young going though so much medical already. And knowing that one simple thing like a treat bag can make then happy. And think about if that was you wouldn't you be happy knowing that people out there are praying and caring about your situation !

Who did you help?
We helped kids from Children's Hospital Foundation.

What did you do?
We gave them treat bags with toys and cookies inside.

When did you do you act of kindness?
We did our act of kindness on November 10 , 11 and 14. On 10 and 11 we organize our stuff that we bought and called. Then on the 14 we went to Children's Hospital Foundation during lunch !

Part 3

How did your act of kindness go?
I felt really great, knowing that we helped children and we also made a difference to them ! And buying stuffed animal's and knowing that the money will be in good use, like giving them to children that need's them.

What Happened?
We went to Children's Hospital at lunch on November 14. And gave the works the goodies we made to give to the children. Then Tania a working from Children's Foundation Hospital came and gave us a certificate that we didn't expected ! We took a couple of picture's with them. After we waited for Norien's dad to pick us up , we saw a gift shop and decided to look around. Then we found out that the money will be given to the Children's Hospital Foundation, so we decided to buy one stuffed animal !

How did you feel?
I felt really good and happy ! Knowing that we made a BIG differences by giving some simple treats will make then happy !

How did the person or people react?
We didn't see the reaction of the children but inside I can feel how they are happy ! But the reaction of the workers from Children Hospital Foundation were really surprise to see how many grade 8 student's from Sargent came by to make a differences to their kids.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"?
We wrote on notes to "Pay It Forward" and we showed them the paper to what "Pay It Forward" really meant.

How did they react to your request?
They reacted surprise and happy. Them knowing at our age we are already making a differences to the world.

Part 4

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important?
"Pay It Forward" is important because you can continue the chain and make the chain even bigger by, "Paying It Forward" to three other people. So it would continue to make a
differences.

Has your act of kindness made a difference?
Yes, I made a difference because knowing that children are now happy from one simple thing that we did !

Here is also a link to Children Hospital Foundation. Them thanking Sargent Park School.
http://www.goodbear.mb.ca/news/510/sargent_park_school_pays_it_forward.aspx

And I got a message from one of the works for Children Hospital Foundation saying...
" I wanted to thank you again for making the treat bags for the kids in the hospital, they were so thoughtful! We brought your groups gifts to the Respirology department, where kids who have breathing disorders go for treatment and tests. You made a lot of kids very happy. "

Good Job grade 8 team ! (:

Nikka's Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

Bar graph:
Advantages: Best for comparing data across categories.
Disadvantages: It's hard to read the exact numbers.

Double Bar Graph:
Advantages: Best for comparing two sets of data across categories.
Disadvantages: The intervals can be inaccurate.

Circle Graph:
Advantages: Best for comparing categories to the whole using percents.
Disadvantages: It takes awhile to make a circle graph and very complicated to figure the right amount.

Line Graphs:
Advantages: Are best showing changes in the data over time.
Disadvantages: It can't show data that don't change over time.

Pictographs:
Advantages: It compares data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols.
Disadvantages: You would have to calculate to find out the number.

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways.

1. Distorting the scale.
2. Distorting the visuals.

3. Distorting the size of bars
.

3a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

Answer: I think a bar graph or line graph would be accurately.

3b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

Answer: Yes, I would continue selling Pizza Sub because the graph is showing that each week the item's are increasing.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

Answer: I would choose the line graph. Because you can tell that the line is getting higher and higher , which means people would be more healthier.

4.a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Nikka's Proportion Post

Ratio: The relation between two similar magnitudes with respect to the number oftimes the first contains the second.
Eg: 6 to 9 , 6:9 and 6/9
Rate: A ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units.
Eg. 15 to 20 or 15:20
Proportion: Comparative relation between things or magnitudes as to size , quantity , number , ratio.

1) 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph.
÷5
h 5 1
---- ----- = -----
m 360 72
÷5

2) As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.
x4
aj 25ml 100ml
---- --------- = ----------
oj 50ml 200ml
x4

3) What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4=12/16 diagonally (multiply top left and bottom right) vertically, and horizontally.

4)

5)
1) Does this seem fair?
No it is not fair.
2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair? Why have you made this choice?
He frauded 3billion but only 3.5 years in prison. And the other guy stole $100 , but gave it back and surrenderd to police and he got 15 years in prison.
3) What would you have done if you were the judge?
I would which it around , instead of the first guy staying in prison for 3.5 years I would give him 15 years in prison and the other guy would get 3.5 years in prison.
