Aaron's Volume Post

V= bxh divide 2 x height
=3x5 divide 2= 7.5m2
=7.5x8.5 = 63.5m2

V= lxwxh

=
2560cm2= 20x8x16

V= bxh divide 2 x h
= 4x8 divide 2 x h
= 32 divide 2 x h
= 16 x 6.5
=104cm2
To find 3/8 u can do 104 divide by 8 x 3 which is
39cm2

V= Pi, Radius squared x h
= 3.14x6x6x15
=1695.6cm2

Aaron's textbook questions

a) The area of the picture is 324cm squared, because 18cm x 18 = 324'
b) The area of the board is 1296 cm squared, 324x4 = 1296
c) The dimensions of the board is 36 cm by 36 cm, because the square root of 1296 is 36.

The order of the numbers is √27, 5.8, 6.3,√46 , 7. 27 is first because √27= 5.1 which is smaller than 5.8. 5.8 is second because 6.3 is higher than 5.8. 6.3 is third because √46= 6.7 which is higher than 6.3. √46 is fourth because its higher than 6.3, √46= 6.7. 7 is last because all the other numbers are lower than it and no other number is higher than it.

a) the maximum area of the hot tub is 27m squared because 25% of 36 is 9 and 9x3 = 27 which is 75%.

b) the fitness center should order 5.1m by 5.1m because 27 = 5.1 , and they cant go over 75% of their space.

Aaron's Scribe Post

Aaron Sawbo December 8, 2011

Hello everyone, this is my scribe post about what we did today.

FIRST, bob and sam both wanted to buy boots. bob goes to one shop sam goes to another shop.
At the shop bob went to ( Shop A ) they were selling the boots for $200 and they had a sale of 50% off.
At the shop sam went to ( Shop B ) they were selling

the boots for $200 dollars also and had a sale of Day 1 30% off and Day 2 save 20% off day 1 price.
ARE THEY THE SAME PRICE? IS SHOP A, A BETTER DEAL?OR IS SHOP B A BETTER DEAL?

Lets find out!

At Shop A

Boots Cost 200$ 50% off

100% = $200

50%= %100

At shop A the boots cost 100$

AT shop B
Boots cost 200$ with a Day one 30% off and Day two 20% off sale.

Day 1- 100% = $200
10% = $20

Times ten percent by 3 for 30 percent

30%= $60

200-60=$140

<< 0.8x140=$112

At shop B boots cost 112$

So now we have a answer to our question, are they the same price?

NO, Shop A sells for $100 and shop B sells for $112

SECOND, Bob and sam want new socks, they go to different shops again. At shop bob goes to ( Shop A ) the socks sell for $50 and there is a sale for 25% off.
At the shop bob goes to ( Shop B ) the socks are selling for $50 dollars and there is a sale on that says Day 1 5% off and Day 2 20% Off

ARE THEY THE SAME? IS SHOP A, A BETTER DEAL? OR IS SHOP B A BETTER DEAL?

At shop A

Socks are $50 and 25% off

to find 25% off i did. 100%=$50
then 50%=25 then 25%=$12.50

I kept dividing by 2

Then i did $50-$12.50= 37.50

At Shop B

Day 1 i did 50x0.005=2.50
50-2.50=47.50

Day 2 i did 47.50x0.2=9.50
47.50-9.50=$38

Aaron's Pay It Forward.

Part 1

What is "Pay it Forward"? Pay it Forward is started by one person by helping 3 people the three people he/she helped will help 3 other people and it keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Part 2

What was your Pay It Forward act of kindness? I raked my neighbours leaves becuase she was an elder woman and she had noone home with her and couldn't do it for herself.

Why did you choose this activity? Because my neighbour had helped me before and fed me before.

Who did you help? My next door neighbour

What did you do? Raked her yard

When did you do you act of kindness? November 17th, 2011

Part 3

How did your act of kindness go? Good

What Happened? I raked my neighbours leaves

How did you feel? Good about giving back to her.

How did the person or people react? She said thank you.

Did you ask the person or people to "Pay It Forward"? Yes

How did they react to your request? She said she'll try .

Part 4

Why is the idea of "Pay it Forward" important? Because if everyone can pay it forward they can make a difference in the world.

Has your act of kindness made a difference? Yes, because now she dosent have to kick leaves when shes walking out of her house.

Aaron's Graphing Post

1. Types Of Graphs:

1. Bar Graph:Advantage: You can easily compare two or three data sets.
Disadvantage: Not that good for a big number of categories.

2. Double Bar Graph:Advantage: You can easily compare two sets of data across categories.
Disadvantage: Can only compare two sets of data.

3. Circle Graph:Advantage: You can easily compare categories to a whole using percents.
Disadvantage: Its only good for 3-7 categories and its hard to compare two data sets.
4. Picto Graph:Advantage: A P
icto graph is easy to read and it handles large data sets easily using icons.
Disadvantage:
The icons must be the same size and its only best for 2-6 categories.

5. Line Graph:Advantage: Can compare more than one types of data sets easily.
Disadvantage: Its only good for data that keeps going.

6. How can graphs be misleading?
1. Putting a break in the y axis.
2. Making one bar 3D
3. Coloring one bar.

7. The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?
1. Bar Graph
2.Line Graph

8. If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

1. Yes because my graph tells me i'm selling more every week.

9. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices

which graph would you choose?

1. I would choose the line graph because it shows that the sales go up every month.

10. Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Here is a Video to help you with graphing:

Aaron S Proportion statement

Aaron's Proportion Post.

Task 1: Defenitions

Two-term ratio- Compares two quantities measured in the same unites.
Three-term ratio- Compares three quantities measured in the same units.
Part-to-part ratio- Compares different parts of a group to each other.
Part-to-whole- Compares one part of a group to the whole group.
Rate- A comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
Proportion- A part considered in relation to the whole.

Task 2:

  1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____mph Answer: 72 mph

2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

Answer: 200m

Task 3:

What are the three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?

3/4= 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32

Answers:

First: You can do it Diagonally, you multiply the top left to the bottom right and the top right to the bottom left.

Second: You can do it vertically, you divide the numerator to the denominator for each ratios.

Last: You can divide the top left to the top right, then you divide the bottom left to the bottom right.

Task 4:

Here is a Video that will help you!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_aQPxr2G_4

Task 5:

Ex Mortage CEO sentenced to prison for 3 years for a 3Billion dollar fraud.

Homeless man sentenced to prison for 15 years for stealing 100 dollars from a bank.

1) Does this seem fiar?

No this is not fair at all.

2) With what you know about proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does this seem just and fair?

Its not fair at all. I made this choice because the guy who stole 3billion dollars only got sentenced to prison for 3 years. And the homeless man who was starving for food and wanting to stay in his shelter got sentenced to prison for 15 years, which is 12 years longer than the CEO who stole 3billion dollars.

3) What would you have done if you were the judge?

If i was the Judge. I would let the homeless man go off with a warning because he's homeless and he needs food and he also needs money to stay in the shelter.

Thank You For Taking Time To Read My First Proportion Post!
