Square Roots

Today in class we did work in our textbooks.

2.  How would you use prime factorization to determine the square root of 225?

3. Determine the prime factorization for each number. Which squares are perfect squares?
Perfect square

Not a perfect square

Not a perfect square

15A. Evaluate

16A. Determine the value

17. A fridge magnet has an area of 54mm2. Is 54 a perfect square? Use prime factorization to find the answer.

This is not a perfect square.

20. Adam's uncle has instructions to building a shed. One page of the instructions isn't clear.

a. What is the area of the rectangle?

The area of the rectangle is 36. I got this by multiplying 4 and 9 together and i got 36

b. What is the side length of the square?

The side length of the square is 6m2 because 6x6 is 36 and the square root of 36 is 6 so all sides of the square is equal so the side lengths of the square is 6m.

Also here is a game you can play to help sharpen up your square root skills

I really hope this scribe post helps you with the homework!

Part 2 PYTHAGORAS

1)Explain the pythagorean relationship.

A2+B2=C2

The pythagorean relationship is the relationship between the length of the sides of a right triangle. the area of the two shorter sides (a and b) must equal the hypotenuse. (c)

2) Solve the missing side length

3) Is this a right triangle? Prove it.

This is not a right triangle because when you add the two squares of the legs you get 100 not 121 so this triangle is not a right triangle.

Ronalen's Percent Scribepost

Today in class we did some questions in the textbook...

Question 4: one full grid represents 100%. What percent does each diagram represent?

4a) 112%

4b) 0.2%

4c) 85 1/3 %

Question 5: what percent is represented by each diagram if a completely shaded grid represents 100%

5a) 3/8%

5b) 125 1/2 %

5c) 282%

Question 6: represent each percent on a grid

6a) 125%

6b)10 1/2%

6c)0.4%

6d)262%

6e)7/8%

6f) 45.6%

Question 7: represent the percent in each statement on a grid.

a) Attendance at the fall fair increased
by 3.2% this year

b) The average mass of a Singapura cat is
about 0.13% of the mass of a Siberian
tiger

c) The length of the Yukon River is about
230% of the length of the Fraser River

Here is a video that can help you with percents too.

I hope this helps you understand percents better.

Ronalen's Pay It Forward

Pay It Forward 2011-2012

Part 1

What is pay it forward?

Pay it forward is when you do and act of kindness for someone you do or don't know without expecting anything back. the main point of this is to make a difference no matter how big or small.
After you do the act of kindness you ask the person to pay it forward for another person and it just keeps going till it spreads out with many people paying it forward.

Part 2

My pay it forward act of kindness is to bake cookies for all the teachers in our school and tell them why we appreciate them. I chose to do this activity because teachers have hard days at school and I thought if we made them cookies and thank you cards it would lighten up their day a little bit and make them happy. We helped all the teachers in our school including the principal and vice-principals and the people in the office. We went to Kassey's house to make the cupcakes . We delivered the cupcakes on Monday to all the teachers and the EAs.

Part 3

The teachers were really happy to get the cupcakes and cards. We went at lunch to deliver the things to the teachers in the school. I felt absolutely stunned by how much this affected the day of the teachers we gave things to. I felt really happy to be making a difference in our teachers day. The teachers we happy to receive the cupcakes. We never asked the teachers to pay it forward because we had to rush to deliver the cupcakes so the other people in my group could go to choral fest.

Part 4

The idea of pay it forward is important because it shows other people capable of doing things for others for nothing in return. My act of kindness made a difference in the teachers day because it made a smile on their faces. It made the teachers happy and it brightened up their day a little bit.

Here is a slideshow that shows what we did for pay it forward.

Ronalen's Proportion Post

Task 1

Ratio: compares two quantities measured in the same units.
written as a:b or a to b.

Three term ratios: compares three quantities measured in the same units.
written as a:b:c or a to be to c.

Part to part ratio: compares different parts of a group to each other
10:8 is the part to part ratio of brown to red beads.

Part to whole ratio: compares one part of the group to the whole group.
5:23 is the part to whole ratio of blue to total number of beads.

Rate: rates are a comparison of two quantities measured in different units.
EX.$1.69 per 100g or $1.69/100g rate for purchasing bulk foods.

Unit rate: is the

Proportion: a proportion is an equation which states that two ratios or fractions are equal.

Task 2
  1. 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about _____mph
  2. As a playgroup worker, if I increase the amount of apple juice I am serving at the playgroup from 25 ml to 100 ml, how much should I increase the the orange juice to, to keep the quantities in the same proportion? The orange juice is 50 ml to start with.

Question 1: 5 hours to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph because if you divide 360 by 5 you get 72 miles per hour.

Question 2: as a playgroup worker you increase the amount of apple juice from 25ml to 100ml
if I increase the amount of orange juice and the orange juice is 50ml i will increase the amount to 200 because when you multiply 25 by four you get 100. If you multiply 50 by 4 you get 200.

Task 3

Three ways you can prove that equivalent ratios are true......

3 /4 = 12 /16 or 4 /9 = 16 /32 you can prove this is true by multiplying diagonally and if you get the same number for both sides it is equivalent. you can do that vertically and horizontally.

Task 4

Here is a video on a way to figure out a proportion.
Hope this helps you.

Task 5

This picture up here shows a social injustice.

Question 1 answer: this is absolutely unfair just because someone is poor or homeless it doesn't mean you can treat them like garbage.

Question 2 answer: this is not just and fair because the man who stole 3 billion dollars only got about 3 years in jail. A man who stole 100 dollars and later turned himself into the police got 15 years in jail.

Question 3 answer: if i was the judge i would have the man who stole 3 billion dollars the rest of his life in jail. i would have given the man who stole 100 dollars about 2 years in jail.

Thank you for reading my post. :)
