Joshua Rego's textbook questions

3 questions from pg. 110-111 #4,#7 #,13

4. Find the height of the pole where the guy wire is attached,
to the nearest tenth of a meter.

10msq+2msq=
100m+4m=
104m
√104m=10.19

7. What is the height of the wheelchair ramp? Give you answer to
the nearest tenth of a centimeter.

80cmsq+79cmsq=
6,400m+6,241m=
12,641m
√12,641m=112.4

13. A cruise ship travels from Port Cassett north at speed of 34km/h
for 2.5 h. Then turns 90° and travels west at 30 km/h for 7.3 h. When it
reaches Green sea island how far is the ship from Port Cassett?

235km

Pythagoras Scribe Edit

1.Answer in a short paragraph and with diagrams

The Pythagorean relationship means that the sum of the two side lengths (a and b)
should equal the hypotenuse ( C ).

2. The way to solve the missing side length.

a2+b2=c2
12cm^2+5cm^2=c2
144cm+25cm=
169cm=c2
√169cm=√c2
13cm=c2

The hypotenuse is 13cm

3. Is this a right triangle? Prove it!!!

a2+b2=c2
8cm2+6cm2=c2
(8x8)+(6x6)=
64cm+36cm=
100cm
100cm=√C2
10cm

The hypotenuse is 10cm.

Joshua Rego's Pythagoras Scribe

1. The relationship between a2+b2=c2 is that a+b=c (leg+leg=hypotnuse.)

2. The way I figured out the hypotenuse was by using the 2 legs (12cm and 5cm) to find the hypotenuse.
a2+b2=c2
12squared+5squared=c2
(12x12)(5x5)=c2
 144+25=c
c=169
Square root of c =Square root of 169
c2=13

3. The side lengths are 6,8 and 11cm. the way to find out if this triangle is a right triangle is to add up the two legs and see if they equal the hypotenuse.
6+8=14
This is not a right triangle.

a)Whole Number:5

PS before:4
PS after:9

b)WN:18

PS before:16
PS after:25

c) WN:78

PS before:64
PS after:81

d) WN:95

PS before:81
PS after: 100

5.a) The square root of 17 is 4.1. The 4=the number  of 16's square root. The .1= the 1st number after 16

b)The square root of 85 is 9.2. The 9=number of 81's square root. the .2=the estimate of the space between 81 and 100

6.a) WN:27

PS before: 25
PS after: 36
Approx. square root: 5.2

b)WN: 55

PS before: 49
PS after:64
Approx. square root:6.4

c)WN:105

PS before:100
PS after:121
Approx. square root:9.3

d)WN:140

PS before:121
PS after:144
Approx. square root:10.8

7.45cm2. it means the side length should be 45.

Joshua Rego's scribe: Textbook pg 142-143

This is my scribe post on the textbook on pages 142-143.

6.a) 5% of 520
       8
5/8 = 0.625  of 250 = 156
            1
b) 75 2% of 200
         5
2/5 = 0.4
           1
75.4% of 200 = 3

c) 250% of $76.50
100%     =       76.50
100%     =       76.50
50%       =       35.25
250%     =   $188.25

10. When water frezzes, it's volume increases by 10%.

a) By how much does the volume of 750 mL of water increase when it frezzes?
750 / 100 = 75%

b) 750 + 75= 825

14. 4% of 100 is the same as 8% of what number? Explain how you arrived at your answer.

4% of 100    4 x 2 = 8    100 x 2 = 200    So,  8% of 200
1% =  1                                                           2% = 1
1% =  1                                                           2% = 1
1% =  1                                                           2% = 1
1% =  1                                                           2% = 1
4% =  4                                                           8% = 4

Joshua Rego's Pay It Forward

Part 1
"Pay It Forward" is an act of kindness towards others. If you know someone who is going through a rough time and needs help or even a person you don't know. You help the person in whatever way they need help. After you have helped them you ask them to do the same for another person, then that person asks another person and so on. All this is one individual trying to make a change in the world one person at a time.

Part 2
My Pay It Forward act of kindness was to go and donate some food and toys to Winnipeg Harvest. I gave in 38.4 pounds of food and toys.

I chose this activity because I wanted to give some new toys to Winnipeg Harvest then my mom said, "why not give some food too." I thought it was a good idea.

I helped Winnipeg Harvest by donating food to give to many people in need.

I donated 38.4 pounds of food and new toys to Winnipeg Harvest.

I did this on Saturday, November 12, 2011 around 12:00 pm.

Part 3
My act of kindness went well.

I felt really good about helping my community and even the city.

The people at Winnipeg Harvest were ecstatic when they saw I donated so much food and toys.

No, I didn't ask because that is what Winnipeg Harvest does.

They were happy to take the food and toys.

Part 4
The idea of "Pay It Forward" is important because some people never think about helping someone like we have.

I believe my act may have made a difference.

Joshua's Proportion Post

Proportion-An equation tht states two ratios or fractions are equal 3:5 or
Rate-A comparison of two different quantities mesured in different ways  ex. $1.34/100g $1.34 for every 100 grams
Ratio- A comparison of two numbers by division   ex. 3:6

1. To find the answer i divided 360 by 5 to get 72mph

2.  25x4=100ml   50x2=100ml

To show that an equivalent ratio is true are : Find a lowest common denominator, Divide the numerator by the denominator,

1. This doesn't not seem fair... AT ALL!

2. This doesn't seem fair or just because the $3B fraud guy had to pay $1B for each year. The homeless dude who stole $100 pays $6.66 for each year

3. If I was the judge the $3B fraud guy would get 15 and the homless dude who stole $100 would get ..ehhh... 1 month not even
