Melina's Pay it Forward

Pay it forward is an act of kindness that you do for someone who will pass it on to other people.

For my pay it forward act of kindness Anita and Sheila and I babysat Sheila’s cousins for the weekend because Sheila’s mom was sick. We were going to go do something else but sheila told us she couldnt go because her mom was sick. So me and anita decided that we could help out sheilas mom by babysitting three of sheilas baby cousin. The kids we watched were Jayden, Matthew, and Fiona. Jayden is 2 Matthew is 1 and Fiona is 4. We babysat for the weeken and we thought it would be hard because the kids were very energized but it wasnt hard at all it was actually really fun!

This is 2 year old Jayden:

Here is 1 year old Matthew:

And this is 4 year old Fiona:

Our act of kindness went pretty well. We played catch with them (inside the house) we made arts and crafts with them we even had to give them a bath! I thought i would be hard having to wake up at 8 in the morning and going to babysit three little kids but after spending the weekend with these adorable kids i didnt mind having to wake up at 8. I felt really good helping sheilas mom. Sheila's mom was very happy when she saw that the kids were laughing and smiling and it felt great to us seeing a smile on her face! We didn't ask sheilas mom to "Pay it Forward" because she was sick. But she does help more than three people a day, because whoever she is babysitting she helps the kids parents out a bit.

Paying it forward is a important because if three people help three people then the other three people help sombody else the chain of helping people would continue and it will make a difference! The thought of helping someone without asking anything in return is very nice. My act of kindness helped sheilas mom and the kids parents. It was really fun babysitting jayden, matthew and fiona! It was a very fun weekend and it would be fun if we could do something like this again.

Melina's Graphing Post

1. Use your notes to list the different types of graphs. Please list the advantages and disadvantages of each graph.

Bar graphs are best for comparing data across categories.
Advantages:
Can see it more clearer.
Can an easily compare two or three data sets.
Disadvantages:
Graph categories can be reordered to emphasize certain effects.
It uses only with individual data.

Double bar graphs are best for comparing two sets of data across categories.
Advantage:
Comparison is made easy and it will save time of the user to make quick comparison of large data.
You can record comparison between two things or objects.
Disadvantage:
you could get confused by both of the bars together even if they are in color or black and white.

Circle graphs are the best for comparing categories to the whole using percents. The sum of the percents in a circle graph is 100%
Advantages:
They are good for showing percentages of the whole.
Disadvantages:
You can't have more than 7 categories.
Line graphs are best for showing changes in data overtime
Advantages:
Can compare multiple continuous data sets easily
Interim data can be inferred from graph line
Disadvantages:
Use only with continuous data

Pictographs are best for comparing data that can be easily counted and represented using symbols.
Advantages:
Easy to read
Disadvantages:
Hard to quantify partial icons
Icons must be of consistent size
Best for only 2-6 categories

2. How can graphs be misleading. Show 3 ways

Color a bar different

Make the bar two times the original size

Make a break in the yaxis

2a) The following chart shows Pizza Sub Sales over a month. What 2 graphs would show the information accurately?

The two graphs that would show the information accurately would be the line graph and the bar graph.

2b) If you were selling Pizza Subs would you continue? How does your graph explain your answer.

If i were selling pizza subs i would continue because my graph shows that i am selling more pizza subs than the week before so there might be a chance that i would sell more the week after.

4. Below you see 2 different examples of graphs showing healthy choices sold at the canteen. If you had to convince Mrs Mota that we should continue selling healthy choices which graph would you choose?

I would choose the line graph because it shows that we are selling more healthy food choices each month.

4a) Change each graph so that your information looks even MORE impressive. You may not change the data just the graphs.

Melina's proportion post

Task 1:
Definitions:
Ratio:
Two term ratio: Compares two quantities measured in the same unit.
Three term ratio: Compares three quantities measured in the same unit.
Part to part ratios: Compares differ net parts of a group to each other.
Part to whole ratios: Compares on part of a group on the whole group.
Words: three compared to six or 3:6
Ratio Notation: 3:6
Fraction 3/6
Rate: A comparison of two quantities measured different units.
Proportion: An equation which states that two ratios or fractions are equal.
Task 2:
1) 5 h to travel 360 miles is about 72 mph
The answer is 72 mph.
2) As a playgroup worker, if i increase the amount of apple juice i am serving at the playground from 25ml to 100ml, how much should i increase the orange juice to keep the same quantities of the proportion? The orange juice is 50ml to start with.
Task 3:
What are three ways you can prove that equivalent ratio statements are true?
3/4 = 12/16 or 4/9 = 16/32
Answers:
1) You can multiply or divide horizontally. (Top left to the top right, bottom left to the bottom right.
2) You can multiply or divide vertically. ( Numerator to the denominator for each of the ratios)
3) You can multiply or divide diagonally. ( Top left to the bottom right, Top right to the bottom left.)
Task 4: Here is a video on proportions. Hope you enjoy!

Task 5:
Do you think its fair?
No, i do not think it is fair.
With what you know about
proportion look and read what is in the image above. Does it seem just and fair?
Why have you made this choice?
No i think it is not fair because the the other guy had a $3B fraud and the judge made him go to jail for just forty months, and the other homeless guy stole a $100 dollar bill because he was hungry and he is going to go to jail for 15 years.
What would you have done if you were the judge?
I would have sent the person that stole $3 billion for fifteen years and the homeless guy that stole $100 dollar bill for just 4 months to jail because first of all he made it a robbery and second of all i would let him keep the $100 dollar bill so he could buys food and clothing and make him stay at shelter for homeless people.
I hope this helped you!
