Hey everyone! this scribe post will be about the solutions for numbers 4,7, and 11 on pages 142-143 chapter 4.3.


4.)
- For this questions it says that use your mental math to solve them so please try to trust your brain first rather than your finger.


- You can do solve these questions the fast way but for now let's do the slower way so that it is more understandable.

A.)
-For this question it's asking for the 20% of 60, so first we need to find 10 %.


- Now we know that 6 is 10% of 60 but what we're looking for is 20% so we need to multiply by 2 or you can also add by 6.

- So there it is we found 20% of 60 which is 12.

B.)
- For this question they are asking for 250% of 400 but, we know 400 is equal to 100% so we only need to double that to get 200% which would be 800. So, now the problem is 50%.
And all we have to do is divide it by 2.

- Now we know all the parts of our percent, we only need to add all them up.
800+200= 1,000 so, there it is 250% of 400 is 1,000!

C.)
- For this question it's asking us for 10.5% of 100. We know that 10% of 100 is 10 so we only have to find 0.50% of 100. In order to find it we have to find 1% in which we would divide by 2 to get 0.5%


- Hey, it's 1! so we divide it by 2 to get 0.5% which would be 0.5. And all we have to do is add up- 10+0.50= 10.5. There it is 10.5% of 100 is 10.5 they're the same!

- This question is asking what are the chances of winning with one ticket and expressing them in percents.So, we need to use this formula to get the percent or chance = (amount divided by total)x100= percentage

Because we are finding the chances of one ticket we need to set that (1 ticket as the amount and divide it by 200 as the total tickets sold) and multiply it by 100= percentage or the chances.

- Woah! There it is the chance of winning with one ticket is only 0.5%.

B.)
- For this question we need to find how many tickets we have to buy to get 2.5% of winning.
- But, we already know that 1 ticket have a 0.5% chance winning.
- So we only need to find what 2.5% percent would equal to.



Answer- It's 5!

11.)

- For this question they are looking for 6.5% of 9 984 670 square kilometre.
- So we need to find 1% and add it to get 6% next, we need to find 0.5% and add it all up.


- Now we know that 1% is 99846.7, we need to multiply that to get 6% which would be 599,080.2.
- Our problem now is 0.5 so we will find it.
- It's 49937.35! So we add it all up 599,080.2 + 49937.35= 649017.55!

- That's it! 649017.55 squared kilometre is the area of Manitoba compared to the area of Canada.

 MY WE DAY EXPERIENCE

   My we day experience was the most fun i ever had. I learned so many things about how you can change the world and that " you have the POWER". Going to we day is such a big opportunity because only a few students from Sargent Park school could go and I was one of those people that wanted to change the world.


  There were so many people that inspired me like " Hannah Taylor, Spencer West, Mia Farrow, Rick Hansen, Craig Kielburger, Marc Kielburger, and so many more. I couldn't believe that me just that one person could do something about changing the world  but with the help of them all saying " What we've got to do is put the power and responsibility in the hands of the communities" or "If enough of us choose to change even one small thing, together we have the power to change anything" and one I mostly remember is "you are never to young to change the world". 

Together WE can make a difference just like all of those inspiring people.

Also during the We Day celebration Craig and Marc always made us say WE ARE  by saying the we committing to changing the world. Also they talked about the vow of silence. That is for children who have no right to speak out and they have to work and be in child labor. On November 30,2011 I will the participating in the vow of silence and i hope YOU WILL TOO.

Join making a difference and being a part of we day! Let those people inspire you to make a difference in the world and trust me after hearing the speeches I want to go to Kenya or build a anything to put a smile on someones face.

my we day experience was amazing, I had a lot of fun, and I heard a lot of great motivational speeches. one thing that really caught my attention was many children go to bed starving and hurting inside because they have no food,water, no place to call home. Instead they work all day long hours doing work they are forced to do, instead of being a kid, and hanging out with friends.

Also today millions of young people are denied their right to an education,health care,security,and their inherent right to life. which I think is really wrong.

The speaker that really inspired me the most was Spencer West, he inspired me the most because at a young age he found out from the doctors that he might never be able to walk again. Spencer heard that but new that just because he would never be able to walk again doesn't mean he should give up in life. So he kept going in life just like you and me, he tried to make his story about his legs funny so people would understand it doesn't matter what you look like or your story we are all the same,and we should all be treated equally.

To me Spencer's speech really spoke to me more.

I think that after that experience I do believe that we are the change people have been waiting for,and we can make a difference no matter how big or how small, we can all do it one step at a time.

I believe if we can make a difference just by helping others out of the good of our hearts you can do it to.

Remember the vow of silence is more than just a symbolic act of solidarity. By collecting pledges from your friends and family, you will support Free The Children's developmental projects in communities around the world. also every pledge you collect makes a positive difference in the country you are supporting, even after 24 hours of silence are over.

Lastly from this We Day experience I hope to get more active and get to participate in more life changing events like the me to we concert!!!

We Day

On Wednesday , November 23 , 2011 me and 40 other grade 8 students and also some teachers went to We day at the MTS center. We all left at 8:30 am and took the transit there and back. We got back at around 2:00 pm.

Some of the speakers at We Day included Rick Hanson , Spencer West , Mia Farrow , Craig and Mark Kielburger , Al Gore , Hannah Taylor and MANY more !!

Some performers were Hedley, Down With Webster, Shawn Desman and some others.

We Day was lots of fun!!! I think this experience changed my life.

answer a)=1/200 divide the numerator by the denominator by 2.

so 0.5/100=0.5%

B) 0.5% times 5 = 2.5%

so you would need 5 tickets to have a 2.5% chance of winning.

The area of Canada is approximately

9 984 670 km2

. The area of Manitoba

is about 6 1/2% of the area of Canada.

What is the area of Manitoba to the

nearest square kilometre

answer= change the 6 1/2 t0 6.5 because 1/2 is the same as 0.5.

so then 6.5 times 9 984 670= 64'900'355 km2

the area of Manitoba to the nearest square kilometre is 64'900'355 km2.
